3 Must Eat Foods in Penang

Penang food is world famous, but what to eat when in Penang?

In Penang, hawker food is as delicious as the finest gourmet experience in any city. Many Malaysians hold Penang as the top food destination in the region, not because of some fancy restaurants but rather for their humble road-side eateries and stalls that line the streets. Today I'm going to introduce the top 3 must eat food in Penang.

  • Siam Road Charcoal Char Kuey Teow

The new place, now known as Siam Road Char Kuey Teow, is located opposite the previous spot where Uncle Tan used to wok his magic, serving his femes Char Kuey Teow to the endless line of customers.

Look at the queue! It took me 2 hours queue.. but this char kuey teow is really worth waiting!

The seasoning and spice levels are just right. Moreover, each crispy cube of pork lard added layer after layer of flavours to the dish. This is one of the best, or perhaps, the best plate of char kway teow in Penang!

Operating hours: TUE - SAT 12PM - 7PM
Address: 82, Jalan Siam, George Town, 10400 George Town, Pulau Pinang

  • Penang Air Itam Laksa

This popular stall at Jalan Pasar next to the Air Itam market, at the foot of a main tourist attraction Kek Lok Si Temple will be the place to try it. He has a chain of staff helping with assembling the other key ingredients of cucumber, onions, red chillies, pineapple, lettuce, mint and ginger.

The soup is thick with balanced taste of sweet, sour and spicy, added with lingering touch of the prawn paste. It’s a small bowl, but satisfying, and some may want seconds.

Opening Hours: 11:30am – 8pm Daily
Address: Jalan Pasar Road, 11500 Air Itam, (Beside the Air Itam Market)
Penang, Malaysia.

  • Chew Jetty Big Bowl Noodles

It’s either you come hungry or come in size. Chew Jetty Big Bowl Noodles is no mean feat. As its name suggests, expect to be served in bowls bigger than your head and to dig into a bountiful load of ingredients.

Look at the bowl.. it's for 2-5 pax for the biggest bowl.

Look how crowded and these people are queueing for this big bowl noodle.

Their environment is comfort and also have an air conditioner inside.

We ordered special spicy seafood noodle, and creamy spicy beef noodle soup, these is just the normal size (1pax), look how big it is.

Operating hours: 10am - 8pm Daily
Addres: 62, Pengkalan Weld, 10300 George Town, Pulau Pinang, Malaysia

Places to Eat in SUBANG SS 14

Can't decide WHERE and WHAT to eat in SUBANG JAYA SS14? We got your covered!

When it comes to food hunting in the Klang Valley, people often look for big cities such as Kuala Lumpur and Damansara. While those cities respectively offer some of the best food in Malaysia, there are also many restaurants in smaller cities like Subang Jaya that deserves your attention.

While the popular food places in Subang Jaya are always crowded and parking is almost impossible, the wide arrays of delicious delicacies make all the hassles worth it.

  • Boran ( Classic Thai Street Food ) @ SS 14

Fans of authentic Thai fare in Subang Jaya have a new destination that deserves to become a frequent top choice: Boran Classic Thai Street Food has spread here from PJ's Seapark, launching its second outpost in SS14, serving up soul food by Chonburi-born Donut & her Malaysian husband Yang in a setting that's loaded with colour & character.

Operating hours: Mon - Sun (11:30am–2:30pm & 5:30–9pm)
Address: 25G, Jalan SS14/1, Subang Jaya, Selangor.
Tel: 03-5611-3297

  • Ma Zi Pan New @ SS 14

Oh the love for a bowl of hot noodles, especially on a rainy day! Soupy or Dry, this dish is usually served alongside minced pork, fried anchovies, mushrooms, potato leaves, etc. Not forgetting, various forms of noodles (knife cut/ thin/ thick) are available for selections.

The shop interior has nothing to shout about and the choices of pan mee are various too.

And in here, one can go for the Kicap pan mee, soup pan mee,  curry pan mee and many more.

I have the Soup Pan Mee where it comes with your choice of noodles and topped with the black fungus, minced meat, and also anchovies. The soup comes slightly salty to me  but the noodles are good. For those who love spicy, it will the best serve with their belacan. Overall, the taste is good.

Operating hours: Mon - Fri (10am - 10pm) & Sat - Sun (9am - 10pm)
Address: 8, Jalan SS 14/1, Ss 14, 47500 Subang Jaya, Selangor.

  • Restaurant Ah Ping Bah Kut Teh @ SS 14

Good Bak Kut Teh stalls are hard to come by, unless you’re residing within the town of Klang where you can throw a stone from anywhere and 50% probability of hitting someone who’s cooking Bak Kut Teh at their restaurant or home.

Ah Ping usually would be packed to the brim, especially if you come on a rainy evening or during peak dinner hours. Finding a seat can be a slight hassle, but they work in such a speedy and impressive manner, you’d be thinking whether did they prepare your Bak Kut Teh 5 minutes before your arrival!

They serve two versions of bak kut teh; the soup version in claypot and the dry version coated in a sticky sauce with a balance of savoury and sweet flavours; lightly permeated with a slight briny hint from the dried cuttlefish bits cooked within. This dry version of Bah Kut Teh clearly is not their forte, paled in comparison to their soup version.

Operating hours: Mon - Sun (4pm - 10.30pm)

Address: 42, Jalan SS14/2, Subang Jaya, Selangor.

Best Street Food in KUANTAN

Never Thought Of Visiting Kuantan? These 4 Amazing Street Foods Might Change Your Mind!

For most of us, when it comes to long weekends, we often look forward to visit places like Penang, Ipoh and Melaka. I mean, who does not love experiencing good food, beautiful beaches and visit heritages spots right?
While those cities are amazing, Malaysia's east coast certainly more attention. Yes, we are talking about the extremely undervalued city of Kuantan, Pahang.
When it comes to having delicious local cuisine or street food, Kuantan is quite undervalued. Due to its nearness to the beaches, this city is mostly known for its fresh and wide-ranging seafood. However there are plenty of other delicious in Kuantan that have a uniquely local flavour.
Here are some of the delicious local food should try when you are in Kuantan.

  • Cendol Air Putih

This is the most popular cendol selling in the city, it's already opening for more than 20 years. As I knew from the boss, he starts his business with a vending sidecar until now.

They are selling many types of cendol and ice kacang.

Besides that, they also selling curry puff and Ikan Pulut. Their Ikan Pulut is a must try food at there.

The uncle on the left is the boss in this shop. Heard from his son that he is already 73 years old, but his skill of making cendol is never get old.

Me and my friend ordered a Cendol Biasa and Cendol Pulut. This was the first time that I knew Cendol Pulut is really nice.

Opening Hours: 12pm - 6.30pm
Address: Jalan Air Putih, Taman Berserah, 25300 Kuantan, Pahang.

  • Keropok Lekor (Taman Gelora)

Keropok Lekor is the best snack to eat during tea time. In Taman Gelora, this stall will be full of locals that queuing for the keropok lekor at around 3 - 5pm.

Looks at this fresh-made keropok lekor!

I really like to eat the keropok lekor with their self-made chili sause. Other than that, I also ordered a coconut to drink for the hot weather.

Opening Hours: 12pm - 7pm
Address: Jalan Dato Abdullah, Kampung Tanjung Api, 25050 Kuantan, Pahang.

  • Karipap Panas (Taman Gelora)

This famous curry puff is just beside the keropok lekor that mentioned just now. First of all, I never thought that a curry puff would be so delicious. As you can see the above photo, everyone was waiting for the curry puff.

Actually they are not only selling curry puff, they also selling other street foods. But you know what? Other than curry puff, their other foods are nice as well!

The curry puff is made by full of stuffing, the most important is they are still hot inside.

Opening Hours: 12pm - 7pm
Address: Jalan Abdullah, Kampung Tanjung Api, 25050 Kuantan, Pahang.

  • Mustafa Cendol & Rojak

There are 2 famous Cemdol places to go in Kuantan, one in town (Cendol Air Putih), and another one on the way to the beach, which is Mustafa Cendol.

This cendol place started out as a simple booth along the road but is now a restaurant serving local food as well.

I've ordered their famous rojak and cendol campur. Actually I would prefer Cendol Air Putih instead of this, but their rojak is really nice. The rojak is made with a traditional fruit and vegetable dish with sweet and spicy peanut sauce, it's really delicious!
